Novryan brings over a decade of experience across both domestic and international domains. He earned his Bachelor of Laws (Sarjana Hukum) with cum laude honours from Universitas University (UNPAD) Bandung in 2012, graduating with a Dean’s List Award for the highest GPA and Student Body’s Award for best performance. As a student, he consistently excelled in academic, moot court and public speaking competitions, including winning the 2011 European Union Intervarsity National Debate Competition at the national level. He later obtained his Master of Laws (LL.M) in Public International Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE, the Number One University in the UK according to the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026) United Kingdom, graduating with an Award of Merit from one of the world’s foremost law faculties (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2025: 6th globally in Law and Legal Studies).
Professionally, Novryan has worked extensively on legal and policy matters with foreign embassies, and international organisations. His career includes work with a renowned Jakarta-based human rights law office, the British Embassy Jakarta, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at national and Asia-Pacific regional levels, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) in Indonesia, and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), where he served as its first and only staff member in Indonesia.
During his employment with the human rights law firm in Jakarta, Novryan contributed to various legal documents for litigation and non-litigation purposes including legal opinion and memorandum for clients and courts when dealing with cases, as well as for governmental institutions such as the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission and the Indonesian Armed Forces. At the UK Embassy, he drafted numerous documents and reports on Indonesian legal proceeding (e.g. criminal proceeding, death penalty, extradition and human rights) for the Embassy in Jakarta and other UK government institutions in London such as the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Crown Prosecution Services, the London Metropolitan Police, and the National Crime Agency – both for the strategic policy and consular cases purposes. With the ICRC and the UNOCT, Novryan often provided analysis respectively on humanitarian and counter-terrorism and preventing and countering violent extremism issues. The UN Resident Coordinator Office in Indonesia often asked him to provide related information on strategic issues which affected the UN’s overall operations in the country e.g. international law, criminal law and refugee law. Novryan has passed the Bar Examination organised by the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI).
